When preparing her palette, Souad mixes sand, pieces of fabric and pigments. She builds up her canvas creating accumulations and ruptures. Playing with the roughness of these materials, she emphasises the relief, which she treats vigorously. Then the engraved drawings: by stripping off successive layers interred colours are resurrected. Souad was born in Morocco in 1970. She grew up in France, then moved to London in 2003, and recently to Brooklyn where she lives and works. First trained as an achitect, she developped her art practice from 1996. Dedicating herself through paintings, she investigates an aesthetic representation of her vision of society. in a larger sense, Souad questions the ''other one'', or the foreigner who fluctuates between different spaces and cultures. She is particularly interested in cultural diversity and identity within a globalised society.
